The 2nd Gauteng competition of 2018 was held at Irene Radio Flyer on the 25th of March. A total of 15 Pilots from all over Gauteng made the trip to Irene, with the majority of pilots flying in sportsman.
There new and old faces around and we had 1 pilot in basic, 6 pilots in sportsman, 4 in intermediate, 1 in advanced and 3 in unlimited. We also had a big age gap between the pilots, with the oldest pilot aged at 77 and the youngest pilot we’ve ever had aged at only 8 years old!
Gerdrie de Beer, aged 8, can hardly fit a transmitter into his hands and flies a 100cc MX2 (which he could almost fit in) but has been eager to start flying competitively, and since this competition was at his home club, he dad decided to enter him into the basic class. Even though he’s so young, he still managed to impress!
Through out the day, most classes flew 2 rounds, with Advanced and Unlimited only flying 1 round due to bad weather approaching. Luckily everyone still had a great day, with everyone learning something.
A big thanks to Brett Black, Ian Edwards and Errol Bakker for Judging. To Roland Suhrmuller and Owen Vuyk for scoring and organising, and lastly a huge thanks to Irene Radio Flyers for letting us use their facilities.
Here are the results:
