The first Gauteng regional competition of 2018 took place on Sunday the 18th of February at Henley Aero Modelers. This was a great venue to get 2018 started, as it will also be the venue for the 2018 SAMAA combined power nationals which is due to take place at the end of April.
The organizers decided to have a slightly later start than usual to accommodate competitors that had to travel a bit further. By 08:30 there were 8 pilots ready for the pilot briefing and eager to get flying!
A slight crosswind during the first round gave a few of the pilots a hard time keeping their line, luckily due to no time constraints the judges had a chance to chat to the pilots after each flight and give them some tips and pointer.
Round 1 was competed just before lunch time giving the pilot’s a great opportunity to make use of the catering that was kindly provide by Henley Aero modelers who gave everyone a large variety of foods and beverages to choice.
After lunch it was time to get round 2 going, fortunately the wind had almost completely died down by midday and gave us some great flying conditions. This showed as all the pilots Improved their scores in round 2.
A huge thanks to Henley Aero Modelers for the use of the field and for proving catering. Thanks to Charles Kerr, Ian Edwards, Roland Suhrmuller and Brett Black for Judging. Lastly thanks to all the competitors for making the effort to come out.
The next LSA Gauteng Regional will be hosted at Irene Radio Flyers on the 25th of March!
